Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
How does HPLC detect nootropic compounds such as racetams or Noopept?
Most nootropic research compounds contain chromophoric groups — aromatic rings, amide bonds, or conjugated systems — that absorb UV light at characteristic wavelengths. Reversed-phase HPLC separates the analyte from impurities, synthetic by-products, and matrix components, while UV detection measures absorbance at an appropriate wavelength, commonly 210–254 nm depending on the compound. The retention time and peak area together support purity quantification and identity comparison against certified reference standards.
Can capsule contents or formulated preparations be tested, or only raw powder?
ANALITIKA can analyze both raw powders and capsule contents. For capsules, the fill material should be emptied from the shell and submitted as a loose powder. The analytical result reflects the purity of the analyte within the total extracted sample — including any excipients or fillers — so the reported chromatographic purity may differ from a pure raw material result. This distinction is documented clearly in the COA.
What does 'purity' mean specifically for a nootropic research compound?
In HPLC analysis, purity refers to the chromatographic area percentage attributed to the primary peak relative to the total integrated chromatogram. A result of 98% chromatographic purity means 98% of the UV-absorbing material detected co-elutes with the target compound's retention time. It does not address the presence of UV-inactive impurities, elemental contaminants, residual solvents, or biological activity — those require separate analytical methods beyond HPLC-UV.
Some nootropic compounds have low UV absorbance — can they still be tested?
Compounds with weak UV chromophores may require detection at lower wavelengths (e.g., 205–210 nm) or an optimized gradient to improve sensitivity. ANALITIKA evaluates method suitability before commencing analysis and will advise if a specific compound presents detection challenges. In such cases, we may request a reference standard or additional sample material to develop an appropriately sensitive method prior to accepting the submission.
Analytical results issued by ANALITIKA COMPOUND TESTING INC. are provided for research-use and research-related purposes only.
